NEW HORROR RIDE AT GRÖNA LUND IN 2011

Two great new attractions are scheduled to open at Gröna Lund next year. The first, presented today, is a brand new Blå Tåget dark ride. Dating back to 1932, the old Blå Tåget has reached its final destination and will close for a total makeover on August 9th. The new Blå Tåget will be ready and waiting to chill and thrill new guests in new ways when Gröna Lund reopens its gates for the 2011 season.

New scary technology
On August 9th, Gröna Lund will begin the task of demolishing the Blå Tåget building to make way for a new hair-raising ride under the same name. New, scary effects will be tailor-made for the ride by Gröna Lund's Attractions Team.

"Gröna Lund will design and develop new special effects for Blå Tåget in collaboration with some of the world's leading suppliers. Watching this new attraction evolve is going to be very exciting”, says Peter Osbeck, Gröna Lund's Ride Manager.

The 2-seat cars will be replaced with 4-seat cars, which allows almost twice as many riders the pleasure of being scared. The cars will run on roller coaster-like tracks, offering greater flexibility in the design of the ride. They will, for example, be able to lean in different directions as they move from one scary scene to the next.

Classic horror spirit to return

Blå Tåget will be a new and spectacular horror ride on the inside, but from the outside the attraction will be given back its old, classic appearance.

"Blå Tåget is a much loved classic that we are now giving a new lease on life. The attraction will offer an entirely new experience, but at the same time we are preserving its beloved theme and design. The big difference will lie in the new high-tech ways we scare the riders!" says Ride Manager, Peter Osbeck, with a grin.

In addition to Blå Tåget, yet another new attraction is scheduled to open at Gröna Lund in 2011. But that secret will not be revealed until August 9th.

"It's an entirely new ride and it’s the most exciting thing I’ve ever been a part of building", says Peter Osbeck.

Fast Facts & history: Blå Tåget

From a 1930s' Skräckexpressen to a 2000s' Blå Tåget

Gröna Lund built its first dark ride attraction in 1932. It was called Skräckexpressen (the Horror Express). A fire destroyed Skräckexpressen in 1935, but the ride was rebuilt the same year and reopened as Blå Tåget (The Blue Train). From 1967-1981, the attraction was replaced by Spökliften (The Ghost Lift) – with riders sitting in chairlifts instead of cars – but was returned to its current design in 1982. Ever since, Blå Tåget has served as one of Gröna Lund's most popular attractions, enjoyed by some 350,000 riders every year. 2011 will signal a new direction for the train. All the classic horror elements will remain, but will be repackaged in a more awesome design.
