New-generation Sally dark ride set for Six Flags Belgium (September 14, 2002; 1:55)
Sally Corporation announced yesterday that its animatronic- and special-effects-filled interactive dark ride, The Curse of Tutankhamen, is being installed at Six Flags Belgium. The new ride will take the Jacksonville, Fla., company's dark ride concept a significant step forward in technology and theming.

The 17,200-square-foot ride will feature 54 animatronic characters and props and 130 targets. Six-seat, battery operated vehicles by ETF Ride Systems of Holland will be equipped with laser guns that not only use a digital scoring system displayed by onboard consoles, but will also feature tactile and audio feedback. The ride's story line finds guests searching for a secret chamber of treasures beyond the already discovered vaults of Tutankhamen's tomb, but entering these passageways upsets Seth, the ancient Egyptian god of disaster and chaos. Guests will encounter monstrous animatronic cobras, eight-foot scorpions, a three-headed jackal, flying scarabs, warrior mummies and massive statues come to life, all seemingly attacking the riders. Other special effects include a wall that morphs into faces. The ride offers three different endings depending on the guests' scores: low scores will exit the ride, but those adventurers who defeat Seth get to move on to the chamber of treasures.
