Baby's first rollercoaster

ALTON Towers theme park plans to build a rollercoaster for babies.

The ride - called the Babycoaster - comes with teddy bear-shaped carriages and travels at 2mph, designed to replicate the motion of being pushed in a pram.

Codenamed PROJECT GIANT GURGLE, it was revealed by theme park chiefs today after designers put together the finishing touches.

The ride is for babies over the age of six months, is 60 metres long, and each circuit takes 67 seconds to complete.

Bosses at Alton Towers, Staffordshire, which attracted more than 2.4million visitors last year, said the new ride is perfect for parents who want to give their little ones a treat.

Morwenna Angove, Sales and Marketing Director for the Alton Towers Resort, said: "As the UK’s No 1, we are constantly evaluating a whole host of ride and attraction concepts to complement the fantastic combination of experiences already available at the Alton Towers Resort."

"Project ’Giant Gurgle’ is the latest concept to be considered and would fit perfectly amongst attractions already aimed at our younger guests, such as the Driving School and Heave Ho."

The Heave Ho is a rocking boat ride and Driving School teaches kids under the age of 10 the rules of the road as they drive around a circuit in mini-cars.

Mum-of-three Rachel Sutherland, 32, said: "My little one will love it. It’s the first ride I’ve ever heard of that is just for babies."

Alton Towers, home to Nemesis, Europe’s first inverted rollercoaster and Oblivion, the world’s first vertical drop rollercoaster, opened in 1980.
