Chinanews, Beijing, Sept 28 – The China Space Technology Group plans to work with Hainan provincial government to jointly build an aeronautics theme park in Wenchang city, Hainan. The theme park will be located near the new Wenchang Satellite Launching Center. With an investment of seven billion yuan (Anm. Marcel: ~660 Mio Euro), it will be the world's largest aeronautics theme park after completion. The first phase of the theme park will cover a total area of 6,100 mu (or 4,066,667 square meters), said a person working at an affiliated company of the China Space Technology Group in an interview given to Chinanews.com.

The China Space Technology Group has reached a consensus with Hainan provincial government on the construction of the theme park. The China Space Technology Group will participate in the whole project and be responsible for related investment introduction work. After completion, the aeronautics theme park will become a tourist site as well as an aeronautics educational base. The theme park will include a simulated space hall, an aeronautics museum and a vacational center for aeronautics experts, the person said.

The east side of the theme park will be built into a space city that will face the satellite launching center. The first floor of the city will be an entertainment zone, the second floor will be an aeronautics exhibition center, and the third floor will be built into an open area focusing on entertainment activities. The central part of the theme park, called Tai Kong Zhi Men (the space gate), will be built into a commercial zone where people can also have entertainment and leisure activities. The west part of the theme park will be an aeronautics leisure center.

There will be a viewing tower built in the park for people to see the spectacular satellite launching process. In addition to the viewing tower, the theme park will choose various locations and build them into small viewing places where people can take a look at the launching base and see the satellite launching process. Furthermore, a viewing platform will be built at sea where 3,000 people can watch the launching process together.

At present, there is only one aeronautics theme park existing in the world. That theme park is located near the US Kennedy Space Center and covers an area of only 400 mu (266,667 square meters). When completed, the Hainan aeronautics theme park will no doubt become the world’s largest aeronautics theme park. The construction of the theme park will promote international technological cooperation in the space field and greatly boost the tourist industry in Hainan, the person said.
