Man dies after falling off roller coaster at amusement park AGAWAM, Mass. - A 55-year-old man died on Saturday when he fell out of a roller coaster at the Six Flags New England amusement park.
The man, whose name was not immediately made public, fell out of the Superman Ride of Steel roller coaster at about 3 p.m. as it was approaching the end of its run, according to a statement from park officials.
Park paramedics responded immediately and the man was transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield where he was pronounced dead at about 3:45, according to the statement.
The ride was immediately closed down and the incident is under investigation by park staff and the Agawam police. The state Department of Public Safety, which oversees amusement park rides, was also notified.
The roller coaster was inspected on Saturday morning and was certified for operation by the state prior to the park's season opening on April 17, park officials said.
Saturday's incident was not the first time there has been a problem with the Superman roller coaster. In August 2001, 22 people suffered minor injuries when one car rear-ended another.
Agawam police did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
