Disney World visitor killed on Splash Mountain
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., Nov. 5 (UPI) -- A 37-year-old man died Sunday on
the Splash Mountain water thrill ride at Walt Disney World in Florida,
WESH-TV of Orlando reported.
Orange County Sheriff's investigators said the man was on the Splash
Mountain ride in the Frontierland section of the Magic Kingdom when the
accident occurred about 2 pm.
Witnesses told investigators the man got out of his boat on his own in the
middle of the ride and was struck by the next boat coming down the
water-filled track. The witnesses said he was not pushed or shoved out by
any of his fellow passengers.
The victim was taken to Celebration Hospital where he died.
Why the man left his boat is unknown. His name and hometown will be
released after his family is notified.
Following standard procedure when there is an accident on a ride, Splash
Mountain was closed after the incident. It was expected to reopen after
investigators completed their work."
