Woody für Alton Towers

Letzte Bearbeitung am 20-Mar-03 um 16:30 Uhr ()
Alton Towers plant seine SW6! (Secret Weapon 6)

Bisherig bekannte Daten:

Eröffnung: 2003
Höhenunterschied: 60Meter
Sitzplätze pro Zug: 30
Wagons pro Zug: 5 (also 6 Leute pro Wagon)

Wirbt Alton Towers schon damit ?

PARK'S BID TO ROLLERCOAST TO NO1 WITH RIDE

Antwort auf Tomsc, Beitrag #8

12:00 - 25 March 2003

Alton Towers has pledged minimum environmental impact over its plans for a multi-million wooden rollercoaster. Specialist assessments made on behalf of the theme park reveal that decibel levels will generally be below existing background noise.

The long-distance ride will result in the loss of 164 trees but the planning application before Staffordshire Moorlands District Council says the vast majority are lower grade and will be replaced.

Disruption to badgers, bats and other wildlife would also be kept to a minimum as construction proceeds for the 2005 opening.

Developments at the former stately home have in the past sparked complaints from local residents about deafening screams from passengers on the white knuckle rides and machinery din.

The new rollercoaster will be built in a steep wooded valley to the south and east of the Nemesis ride.

Iain Rhind, of agents Nathaniel Lichfield and Partners, London, says the proposed rollercoaster is an important part of Alton Towers' strategy to maintain its national position as a leading visitor attraction. The theme park has not revealed the name, cost or length of the proposed ride.

"We consider that the impacts of the ride will not be significant and can be mitigated through appropriate measures," he states in the application.

"The proposal will enable a planned programme of conservation works in the historic gardens as well as the implementation of works of woodland management. These measures will assist in preserving the important heritage assets at Alton Towers and would be of considerable public benefit."

The roller coaster is a key element in the strategy to increase annual customer levels from the current 2.5 million mark to regain the country's number one paid-for visitor attraction status from Surrey's Thorpe Park, also part of the Tussaud's group. Alton Towers' latest ride, Air, generated a 20 per cent rise in visitors shortly after it was launched
