(9/1/06) A Screamscape source has decided to spill the beans today all about Maverick. First off the ride and train may be themed as an old train ride, using several smaller trains instead of one train. In fact the trains may only hold 12 riders total and only three cars long. It will also be Cedar Point’s first use of the new Intamin shoulder restraint system they’ve been using on their other launched coasters lately. It also seems that the two part rumor I had months ago will also be true, where the ride will climb an LSM lift hill that stands only about 107 feet tall, pass over the top to a beyond vertical 95º angle and then drop to the ground into the first segment of the ride. As the ride approaches the station again, it will enter a tunnel directly under the station and lift hill where it will encounter a LSM booster train that will shoot the train out of the tunnel at 70 mph to complete the rest of the 4150 feet of track that will include a third inversion, a very low to the ground heartline spin. Our source wasn’t quite sure, but there also seemed to be a near-inversion element near the very end of the ride that was described as an “exaggerated Stengel dive”. Speaking of which, apparently Maverick will be the 500th coaster designed by Werner Stengel. The final cost is said to be around the $21 million mark.

Keep on riding Real Coasterfreak :D [small].: Lifthill.net :.[/small]

SANDUSKY — Early this morning Cedar Point revealed its plans for Maverick, the new Frontiertown roller coaster that will treat riders to multiple terrain-hugging elements that have never been experienced on a Cedar Point roller coaster. Guests will board steam-era-styled coaster trains with an ultra-sleek profile that will carry them along the 4,450-foot-long course, which is situated on 5.5 acres between the Mean Streak roller coaster and Thunder Canyon water ride. Linear synchronous motors will propel the train to the top of a 105-foot-tall first hill. From there, it’s not straight down – it’s more than straight down! Maverick will take its passengers down to Earth at an astonishing 95-degree angle at speeds of up to 57 mph to within five feet above the ground!
From there, the train will hug the terrain as it twists and banks around hairpin turns with quick but smooth changes in direction. Throughout the 2-minute, 30-second ride, passengers will also experience eight “airtime-filled hills,” three inversions and a second launch through a dark tunnel that will leave them in awe as they reach speeds of 70 mph.
Guests must be at least 48 inches tall to ride Maverick.
Maverick will bring Cedar Point's coaster total to 17 — which is more than any other park in the world. It will cost approximately $21 million to build, making it one of the single largest investments in the park’s 137-year history.
At the end of the 2005 season, the former White Water Landing ride was demolished and removed from the park – although the ride’s station remained for use with Maverick’s queue line. Throughout the winter and spring of 2006, construction crews prepared and poured footers for Maverick, even before the park opened for the season. Speculation grew throughout the summer as to what Cedar Point was planning for the future.

Drop, Launch, Inversionen, Airtime, Theming... wirklich beeindruckend.
Klasse Coaster, klasse Homepage!

#!/usr/bin/perl
# Beispiel # ./script.pl 357/proj07_august26_06 0 62
for ($i=$ARGV&l;1&r;; $i <=$ARGV&l;2&r;; $i++){
$url="http://www.pointpixels.com/4images/data/media/".$ARGV&l;0&r;."-".($i<100?"0":"").($i<10?"0":"").$i.".jpg";
$out="pointpixels/".$ARGV&l;0&r;."-".($i<100?"0":"").($i<10?"0":"").$i.".jpg";
system ("wget -O $out $url");
}
system ("tar cfv pointpixels.tar pointpixels/");

Cedar Point announced today that the opening of Maverick, the park’s 17th roller coaster, will be delayed until early June to make modifications to the coaster’s steel track.
The Media Preview of Maverick scheduled for Thursday, May 10 has been cancelled. The ride will not be in operation on Opening Day.
The decision to delay the opening of Maverick was based on pre-opening tests and consultation with IntaRide, the manufacturer of the ride. Based on these discussions, it has been determined that three sections of steel track following the launch tunnel should be replaced.
“We apologize to all of our guests for this inconvenience,” said John Hildebrandt, vice president and general manager of Cedar Point. “This decision was made in the interest of improving the guest experience on the ride and to eliminate excessive stress on the trains.”
The modification process is already underway and the park hopes to open the ride by early June.
said "hello" to lots of people who said "hello" to me
SpeedMonster, Kanonen). Spannend...
"People who like their toes licked shouldn't wear sandals."
