#22, Tussauds quells sell-off speculation

Hi

Hier ein Artikel:

Tussauds Group, the waxworks and theme parks business that holds a one-third share in the London Eye, yesterday dashed hopes of an early sale or flotation as it reported record results for last year.

The company, sold by Pearson to Charterhouse Development Capital for £352m four years ago, lifted turnover 30% to £178.4m in the 12 months to December after seeing 15m customers visit its attractions in Britain and abroad.

Reported profits rose almost 49% to a record £65.1m, more than double the level two years ago when directors announced their intention to revamp the business by modernising the exhibitions and installing new theme park rides.

Tussauds boss Peter Phillipson said he was confident of being able to deliver further growth this year and beyond.

Tussauds signalled last autumn that a sale or float was possible within a year to 18 months but Charterhouse director Malcolm Offord said yesterday: "Contrary to recent speculation, we have no plans to sell the company at this time."

The owner of the eponymous waxworks in London, where sculptor Steve Mansfield is pictured with a clay head of Kylie Minogue, is thought to be looking to acquire more theme parks in Europe.
